met up with some friends for brunch.
waited a long time and caught up on stories.
looked forward to the mimosas and coffee and delicious savory crepes.
as last, they arrived at our table.
but then.
our dessert came.
1 minute later.
ice cream, sweet apple filling oozing, delicately wrapped in brown sugar.
tucked inside of the softest of doughs.
melting onto the plate.
we each had the same reaction at the same time.
threw down the gauntlet.
abandoned our food without a look back.
jumped into dessert.
bliss.
why we are friends.
we understand each other.
even when no words are spoken.

Absolutely eat dessert first. The thing that you want to do the most, do that. – Joss Whedon
Great words of wisdom from the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You meal sounded delicious in both food and friendship.

Did you go back to the first courses or did you end the friendly brunch saying, ‘just dessert!’ What a great attitude, Beth. I would have been annoyed at the off timing.

we did, mark. later. after that plate of deliciousness was polished off. we were not annoyed at all. he gave us the option. and we all chose well i think.

You have just explained my entire life in one sentence. I always eat dessert first, maybe second, as well and if there’s any room left, I might nibble on the food. This includes breakfast with dark chocolate and almonds. EVERY SINGLE DAY. 🙂 Such a delicious post:)

Not a desert guy. On the rare occasions we eat out i usually ask for the check at the same time we order. Nothing nicer than getting the check with the food. I know then, when i am done eating we can get up and leave.

Lol, I am so not a dessert guy, especially on this continent where everything seems to be too sweet and rich…but then again, hit me with the right dessert, and it’s a dream…

Dessert first might not be a bad idea. I’ve enjoyed far too many fine dinners, only to discover at the end that I was too stuffed to enjoy was must have been an equally fine dessert.

Isn’t it weird how we don’t normally do this, we are so conditioned to have certain things in a certain way, yet how much fun would it be as you did to mix it up a little. How cool to have friends who don’t need words between them. Yes I’m now hungry too. 🙂 x
