The best advice I ever got came from an old gambler:
“Don’t bet the ponies Son.”
To this day, I have never bet on a horse race.
I am just that much richer, I must presume…
that’s awesome, Beth. You are in the position to give advice to your students and certainly your grandkids. Do you give much? You seem more the type to observe and learn.
I love the picture and poem. Kids are the best thing ever, aren’t they (unless they’re arrogant or bullying that is)? I just wish I could get mine to realize there is life outside of Netflix and YouTube. I suppose I will have to suck it up, and be a parent, and drag her outside to play, huh?
It’s funny, I was talking to my sister the other day and we had a conversation about this subject. I said “I feel like when ever someone tells me what I ‘should’ do, it’s the wrong thing.” She answered enthusiastically “me too!! I’m just doing what feels right for ME from now on.”
Great post. Great Quote.
I’ve spent most of my life giving advice. I’ve made people millionaires with my advice. I wish I knew how to follow my own advice sometimes.

Sometimes advice can be a wise wrap of an arm around a shoulder, a cousinly kiss on the cheek, a figurative forget-me-not.
I want this picture of yours to be on a greeting card, Beth.
On the Friendship rack.
Blank inside.
Write your own advice or just sign it.
Thanks for sharing this wonder, Peaches.

Wow, how do you find these moments Beth? So perfect. And they look so little on the big walkway beside the huge river.

special moments happen all around us, we just have to have our eyes open to them. and you are so right about the size contrast of the river –

My problem is giving advice when it isn’t wanted. I need to be more sensitive to learn when only a friendly ear is needed.

that is very hard for me too, as my intentions are good, and i working on getting better about holding back. )

Lovely pic beth. I try to avoid giving advice, unless asked and then I think twice about it. 🙂

He was.
He died penniless.
Ergo, I bet on everything. To include my life.
Cheers,

P.S. But I never bet the ponies. Not once.
