here’s the most amazing thing you’ll ever read about our 10th president:
john tyler was born in 1790.
he took office in 1841, after william henry harrison died.
and he has two living grandchildren.
not great-great-great-grandchildren.
their dad was tyler’s son.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
the tyler men have a habit of having kids very late in life.
lyon gardiner tyler, one of president tyler’s 15 kids, was born in 1853.
he fathered lyon gardiner tyler jr. in 1924, and harrison ruffin tyler in 1928.
harrison tyler has been interviewed in the last few years for new york magazine.
lyon tyler spoke to the daughters of the american revolution a while back.
it’s all in the math.
his living legacy continues.

I think you should send that info to Jeopardy. That would make a great final question that I would imagine few would get correct.

I think the only reason I knew this was because he is from Virginia, so a lot of his relatives are around (or so it seems).

Happy President's Day to all my American friends. Today, in Alberta, it is Family Day and a day off from work for many.

I do remember reading that a couple years ago–amazing! So inconsistent how late in life a man can bear kids, and a woman cannot, and the trouble it causes. Happy Presidents’ Day–which is really Happy-go-to-Walgreen’s for discounted Valentine’s Candy-Day…

Umm, I’m assuming he had more than one wife. When one wore out, did he remarry?
LikeLiked by 1 person
he was married twice. he had 8 children with his first wife, who died of a stroke, and 7 children with his second.

My husband had a friend who had 21 brothers and sisters. I think 11 were by his first wife, and 10 by his second. His friend said he wouldn’t even recognize some of his brothers and sisters if he passed them on the street, because he’d never met them.

I dated a boy in college who claimed a kinship with this president. Same last name, but I was doubtful of the connection.😝. Some boys will say anything in college.

I am amazed and thrilled, Beth! I love historic facts and this is so much fun, too. It is unbelievable that this is possible, but thank you for the explanation, since I would never have figured this one out without you, Beth! smiles! I guess there won’t be any mail when I go home from the library? Aw shucks!

This is almost as interesting as that flying milk cow over on Robin’s page. I can’t imagine having the energy to sire kids at such an age. Heck, I’m ready for a nap right now. Thanks for posting this–it’s a gem.
