he played the whole recess
building a big structure
with boards
and
tree circles
and
‘surfing’ on them
and
running around
digging for ‘boulders’
and
at the end of it all
he walked over to me
asking
if i could help him
to separate his mittens
that had been clipped together
the entire time
without
any issue or complaint.
Awww. Kids. They can make it through anything.

Oh, help! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh, I think. But poor wee blighter. You have to wonder what’s going on in kids’ heads at times like these.

This child quite naturally knows the meaning of diligence and perseverance, Beth. I think you have yourself a winner. ❤

I understand that. It’d be so embarrassing to have to ask for special attention like that.

The “comedy of resilience” applies perfectly to both this little guy’s ability to adapt and how funny the situation actually was. 🙂

LOL! I love it! Thank you for the great post, Beth. I too often also find situations where I’ve been working the hard way to do something for years when a light bulb finally goes on in my head, and with a minor change, I can do so much more with so much less effort. It’s like, “Hey you (fill in derogatory adjective here), why didn’t you think of this thirty years ago!?!?” I’m that kid, just taller and older!

What an amazingly patient little boy. No point in wasting playtime with anything trivial- wait till afterwards.
