roald dahl’s favorite pencil was the dixon ticonderoga –
every morning he would sharpen six pencils
with an electric pencil sharpener and said
when all six needed sharpening again
he knew he’d been writing for about two hours.

Dixon Ticonderogas are the best! Like most writers, I work almost exclusively on a computer, but when I’m stuck I always sharpen up my pencil (though I prefer the hand cranked variety) and grab a loose leaf notebook page. That usually does the trick. And now I know I’m in good company!

they’re great aren’t they? i love pencils and paper even more than writing on a computer. –

Faulkner used to sharpen a bunch before he’d write, too. Not sure if they were Ticonderogas, though…

Different pencils have different feels and leave different marks. Once you find you pencil, hang on to it! Cool trivia.

Quirks can be so much fun. I use Ticonderoga’s but they are black. Best pencils ever. This was fun and interesting. Thank you. 🙂

Very cool interesting. But what if the sharpener didn’t work as efficiently on one pencil as it did on another? Lol, just curious.

I did not know that about Mr. Dahl. However, as a pencil fan, I am pleased he likes Ticonderoga (I love them! And, you can buy them in bulk at Costco!!); though, my all time favorite (and more expensive) are Blackwings.

Roald Dahl sets the bar high in so many areas, love his sense of humor! Six pencils = 2 hours. Wow!

love Ticonderogas, too…… love the classic yellow, but they make neon colors and pink breast cancer awareness pencils. Enjoy our week!

I forget which brand I used to buy, either Dixon or Eberhard Faber, but I insisted on having #3s, not #2s. A #3 holds a point longer. I hated dull pencils.

In your line of work, the #2 in THIS category is better than the other #2.
