where we saw some amazing short films
thus proving once again that
sometimes less is more.

A friend of mine sent me a picture of a rather spectacular Art Deco theater in Ann Arbor, and I can’t remember if it was this one or another. Whatever, they knew how to make theaters back then.

A theater in nearby Palo Alto looks very similar to the one in your photo and plays classic movies from the ’20’s through the ’40’s. It’s a delightful way to experience such movies.

Fort Wayne (in Indiana) restored our old Embassy Theater downtown. Gorgeous, with an organ that’s so special, they do special events there just to showcase the organ. Always a treat.

When I was an undergrad at EMU in the early eighties, a professor of mine was writing a book on the history of the Michigan Theater. I was one of many students of his who sat scrunched over microfilm machines in the library copying from the Ann Arbor News all the shows that were played there for certain years. It was good fun. A great, old theater. Thanks for the brief memory. – Marty

I once went and saw foreign shorts at Baldwin Wallace College. It is rather exciting to know these are being considered for Oscars, Beth! This theater is gorgeous! I liked the arched high windows and beautiful details. 🙂

Private showing.. we get that if we go to the local cinema at 10.30 in the morning. a cup of coffee and nobody else.. not even a pianist! It sounds like a great outing.

Lovely Beth. This reminds me of a cinema I went to as a kid. It sat next to a railway line. Every time a train passed by the entire building shook. More frightening than Hichcock! Thank you.
