maurice sendak’s
“where the wild things are”
was initially pitched as
“where the wild horses are”
his editor loved the pitch but
sendak could not draw horses
so the wild things he drew
ended up being
caricatures of his relatives.

I’m so excited! This is a wonderful “new to me” story! Maurice Sendak is one of my very Big favorites.
Since I like illustrations, this is even more “cool.”
Thank you for this amazing share, Beth. Hope you have a fantastic weekend! 🙂

It’s the 🎨 Delaware Arts Festival, 🖼 so library also has their garage open for their Annual Book Sale, 📚 three city blocks closed. . . White tent booths lined up.
Sadly, wind and rain predicted. 🌂☔
It’ll be fun anyway! 🌈

Last year my son gave me a book for my graduation written by isaac asimov, entitled realm of numbers. It’s beautiful in its simplicity and deep in its exploration of the mysteries of mathematics. Success often emerges from where our thoughts struggle to get untangled.

I love this! So glad he couldn’t draw horses. If I were a relative, I’d keep trying to decide which monster was me:) Loved Asimov’s quote, too.

LOL, I can’t draw horses either without looking at a picture of one. They are difficult creatures to render…
