Beth, “Eigengrau” was not in my 4-inch-thick dictionary, but “eigen” is a prefix that means “peculiar to,” and it is German. I wanted to learn how to pronounce it, so if you speak German, you can probably figure it out. They say if you use a word three times in conversation or writing, you will remember it forever. I am in the eigengrou about how to pronounce this word.
i found a site with the pronunciation – sounds like ‘eye-gin-grow’ (rhymes with pie-sin-now) . hope this helps but may plunge you even deeper into the eigengrau.
It’s all out there in the world, waiting to be discovered- a German word, spelled as you see it in this post, commit it to memory or yell it out next time you’re in that situation)
Of course, I didn’t know that but its always nice to learn a new word ! 🙂

next time you are in a room with others (who you won’t be able to see), in that situation, you can speak out with that word, and surprise them. )

Sounds like some sort of exotic Alpine flower. “The Eigengrau blossom is so wonderful this spring, my darling”
