  1. I read that the barber sign represents their former role as a sort of local surgeon, with the red and white stripes being a symbol of bandages wrapping up a wound, so they really did used to take care of the public!

  2. I am reminded of an old brain teaser I learned in school…

    A man travels to a small town and needs his hair cut for an important business meeting. There are only two barbers in town. One barber has a very neat and clean shop that matches his own appearance. His hair is fabulous. The other barber’s shop is run down and messy, which also matches the barber’s unkempt appearance and messy, whacked up hair.

    With only the two barbers to choose from, the man decided to have his hair cut by the messy barber. Why?
