olive the cat not the oil
cooly waits beneath the tree
acting as though she has not even noticed
this new 6-foot thing in our living room
with lots of moving and dangling and twirling things on it
after i put it all up and walk away
she plans out her next day of play
knowing that i’ll be leaving for school
early in the morning.

“the cat is, above all things, a dramatist. ”

Ours jockey for position underneath. What a strange, wonderful thing to bring a tree in the house for them to play with.

Christmas, and particularly Christmas trees, are irresistible for any cat. So much fun and disaster you can make!

Who can resist a Christmas tree and all of its temptations? We try to put ornaments on the bottom that are unbreakable:)

Based on your charming story I would rewrite Margaret Benson’s poem to observe that “the cat is, above all things, an opportunist. ” 🙂

Good news – only a reindeer who had been standing next to the tree, is down
