a wonderful note during these challenging times, from our local library:
ann arbor district library
Today, you checked out 30,622 items from the AADL.
Last Friday, that number was 5,067.
NOW PLEASE, DON’T BRING ANY OF IT BACK!
NONE OF IT!
NO JOKE!
Seriously, please keep everything until we ask for it back.
We promise, we’ll let you know when.

It took me a minute, and a second read, before I ‘got it.’ Then, I laughed!

I couldn’t agree more. Spoke with my mum yesterday. She is blind and I worried about how she cd spend her days. Her seniors’ residence has a 100% shutdown, not even family visits are allowed any longer. They have no chance of even going for a walk. I asked if I sd read to her on the phone ๐ and she consoled ME by saying: You know, I’m just going to listen to all my CDs again, to my audio books and I am by far not in the worst position… ๐ง๐ถ๐ฟ

I am interested in how your library is handling our crisis, Beth. Is this a clever way of saying they are closing until further notice? My library is still figuring out the challenges with doors open. There is still yet no one right way …

mark – sorry, i didn’t make that clear, yes, you are right. here’s what they’re doing –
All AADL Locations Closed as of 6 PM Friday
Fri, 03/13/2020 – 8:30am by josie
The AADL will close today, Friday March 13, 2020, at 6:00 PM for an indefinite period. This closure is our effort to join in reducing the spread of Covid-19 in our community.
Details about your library account and services follow in this message. We are all sorry about closing the Library, but it is more important for us all to be safe and healthy during this difficult time.
HOLDS
Don’t worry about your items on your hold shelf. Anything that’s on the hold shelves when we close will still be there when we reopen.
DUE DATES
Don’t worry about your items you have out. We are in the process of changing all due dates to April 30 for nowโincluding MeLCat!. Please don’t return any items you have to the drop box until we reopen.
REQUESTS
You’ll still be able to place requests during the closure, but no items will be pulled to fill requests during the closure.
TEXT AND EMAIL
We’ll continue to be available to you via text at 734-327-4200 and email at ask@aadl.org or using our contact us form throughout the closure. We do plan to provide some phone service but we don’t yet know the hours that the service will be available, so stay tuned for that.
WHAT TO DO DURING THIS CLOSURE
AADL is committed to keeping you entertained and informed throughout this difficult time. For now, you can get started just by searching our catalog for things you can download; just choose “Downloads” from the search drop down to find things you can watch, listen to, or read right away. We have lots more ideas of things to keep you busy, so stay tuned to aadl.org and aadl on twitter, instagram, and facebook to see what we’re up to.
WHAT ABOUT THE STAFF?
Thank you for worrying about us, but don’t worry about us! All AADL staff are being paid throughout this closure, and many of us will be working for you every day.

Director announced yesterday, we closed at 8 p.m. and will reopen on April 1, Beth. Staff goes in to get things right today, and then we work at home until that date. Patrons have plenty to find at our website, and I will continue to report on our social media, too.

Oh my, your school is open, isn’t it? Ours is but the school has provided a lot of guidance on hygiene and hand sanitizer in the bathrooms.

Wow, I guess they are hoping to stop the spread. I hope people stay at home and don’t go out anyhow. Maybe they are to scared to at this point.

Library is closed. How strange to even say that. I didn’t even think about the return books. I guess we have to think in new ways now, which isn’t always easy, since we often live by habit. I find it strange that schools and libraries are closed for a couple of weeks and not until “further notice.” I hope they’re right and that in those couple of weeks, things can start going back to normal.

i agree about the library, hard to even think about it -schools are ‘at least’ 3 weeks.

Looking forward to the end of it, that’s for sure. ๐ You have time off to create and keep the kids going on line. Olive will be overjoyed.

Thatโs awesome! Iโve heard of people having to sanitize returned books, at schools. Good gracious. Perhaps time for the digital, though I hate to say that.
