this tree
so stately so old
appears to have a face
when up close
quietly watching
over those resting below
—
“the tree is more than first a seed, then a stem, then a living trunk, and then dead timber.
the tree is a slow, enduring force straining to win the sky.”
~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Wisdom of the Sands, translated from French by Stuart Gilbert
Beautiful picture, beautiful thoughts 👌

Wonderful Beth. I have always believed trees watch over us, in many ways.

Beautiful thought. Now, all I see are large arms giving a big ole air hug to those resting below.

I have always loved trees and fought for them when I once built a new house.
Lovely poem.

I have a photo of an old wonderful tree, it’s arms reaching across the sky, the earth and the universe, and THAT photo is planned for the future card when my mum dies. She is that tree: Giving shelter, comfort, light or shade to all who come into her orbit….
I have read all his writings in French, German and English. Exupéry doesn’t age.
