old and rusted
i wonder about the day
when the child
left the bike here one last time
never to enter that tiny house again. .

This makes me sad….

it is bittersweet, i just found it so symbolic about how we move on through life, and there is always ‘that day’ when we make our move.

Sometimes we don’t even realise that we’ve reached that moment of no return. It just happens. We step forward and we don’t look back. Until, sometime in the future, we remember, and wonder.

that’s it exactly, and it was such a strong visual reminder of how this happens.

This also makes me feel sad, but I hope the child went off to something better, and perhaps a new bike.

i can see why it seems a bit sad, but i was hopeful that the child moved into the next phase of life, natural growth and wonder

There is a touch of sadness here for me too. But it is not for the child, it is for the bike. The outcast and unloved who sits rusting its life away wishing to be loved once again. Well written, Beth!

ah, yes! i’m quite sure that bike was well-loved and the child was ready for something more –

your comment reminds me of the book The Giving Tree, with the bike replacing the tree…

That’s so poignant. We really never know when we’re going to do something for the last time. I love the photo xx

it really had me wondering, we have those days throughout our lives, when we move on, and head toward the next adventure

So many times we don’t even realize we’ve moved on. Trying to remember the last time I ever rode my blue bike, something I loved but, of course, I can’t remember. My bike was so important and then I walked away, like everyone else. We do that throughout our life, leaving things behind, sometimes without a second glance.

What an intriguing photo Beth. It opens the door to all sorts of possibilities. I’ll bet Beetley Pete could create quite the story to go with it.

There are a lot more of those moments than most of us realize. At least not till they are gone and we reach the trigger of long gone memories. Thanks Beth
