“that beautiful season the summer!

filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light;

and the landscape

lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.”

  1. A summer night.
    The moon’s face,
    almost full now, comes and goes
    through clouds. I can’t see
    any stars, but a late firefly
    still flicks his green lamp on and off
    by the fence…….

  2. Ah!!! Such radiance shown immediately transfers the senses to an aura out of this world. I stand transfixed soul pierced soaring toward the ambient fireflies. It’s magical. Light, light, light up my world!

  3. I can close my eyes and bring back the feeling of being outside in the dark on warm summer nights–the excitement and the joy of catching lightning bugs in a little jar with holes punched in the lid for air. Both words and illustrations
    did that.

  4. I drove to the “big city” to pick up groceries and even I had to agree that potato fields in bloom and barley with the wind blowing waves through it are beautiful things. True, not as beautiful as snow, but close. A close second. ❤

  5. I remember taking an all day tour in Malaysia a few months ago, and it ended after dinner with a trip to a field to see some fireflies. This part of the tour had been really hyped, and there were billboards promoting their viewing. At first we thought it was going to be something different, but it was just plain old fireflies that we see in my backyard every summer. I still love seeing them, but over there, they really like seeing them…
