I love Auguste Rodin works, and the first place I went to visit in Philadelphia last year was the wonderful “Rodin Museum”… It was a childhood dream come true… .. simply magnificent !!
He was – I’ve seen her oeuvre and visited many exhibitions both of him and Claudel. He def was jealous.
Film was good too – but my opinion is based on what I saw with my own eyes – he was an unpleasant person.
I love that Rodin quote! So true and if you don’t think it’s beautiful. Look again!;It’s like another quite I love which says, if you can’t think of anything noce to say, you’re not thinking hard enough!’
Nice idea 👍🤝

btw; one should pay far more attention to Rodin’s partner CAMILLE CLAUDEL – a fantastic and terribly underestimated artist on her own

Oh, I so agree. I read about her and saw a film about her as well. A tragic ending and I think he was jealous of her talent

I tracked the quotation down to a 1907 article by Paul Gsell in the French magazine “L’Art et les artistes,” “Art and Artists”:
https://books.google.com/books?id=o4A3AQAAMAAJ&pg=RA1-PA408&dq=Pour+un+artiste,+rien+dans+la+nature+n%27est+laid
The two sentences after the one you quoted are: “Everything there is beautiful. What other men find ugly, he [the artist] transforms into beauty.”

I love this very much; my philosophy indeed; my post about Rumpole was inspired by a leak in the hose about where Rumpole had cocked his leg 🙂
