mysteries, yes.

Standard

“MYSTERIES, YES”

Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous

to be understood.

How grass can be nourishing in the

mouths of the lambs.

How rivers and stones are forever

in allegiance with gravity

while we ourselves dream of rising.

How two hands touch and the bonds

will never be broken.

How people come, from delight or the

scars of damage,

to the comfort of a poem.

Let me keep my distance, always, from those

who think they have the answers.

Let me keep company always with those who say

“Look!” and laugh in astonishment,

and bow their heads.”

  1. Pulling Mary Oliver out of the modern urn of poetic delights, nice! Love her. Well placed and drawn upon without being contrite or as a crutch. I hope this brings others into her poems which in turn may act as a light upon your own. I enjoy your work as Poem and for great editing.

  2. A glorious piece from Mary Oliver .. wow … here’s a few words from Ivor

    “Every day we ascend
    We awake stretch and bend
    Arising from our dreams
Curiosity bursting at the seams ”

And a fabulous song that I think suits…
