in talking with the grandies
about all the excitement leading up to christmas eve
i soon realized
that i was even excited for the eve before that eve
because i know what comes next
and it just grows from there.

“I like to compare the holiday season with the way a child listens to a favorite story. The pleasure is in the familiar way the story begins, the anticipation of familiar turns it takes, the familiar moments of suspense, and the familiar climax and ending.”
– Fred Rogers
that Fred Rogers, he knew a thing or two: I loved his depiction by Tom Hanks in ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ 🙂

my mate and I were talking this afternoon about ‘A Bridge Of Spies’ then other movies Tom Hanks was in including the Xmas film ‘The Polar Express’ and we came to the conclusion that Tom Hanks never made a bad film 🙂

i think you’re right! p.s. my friend lived in the small town, where the ‘polar express’ train came and left each day after thanksgiving until christmas each year, and it made her crazy, all the whistles and horns )

It is hard not to get caught up in the excitement that children exude as the big day approaches. I remember counting the days to Christmas by the number of “sleeps” before the big morning. I hope you all have a wonderful, happy, and safe holidays!

Children bring such innocent joy to our lives. I remember I got so excited as a kid for holidays like Christmas and my birthday on Valentine’s Day that I caused myself to get sick

And if there was ever a year when we needed (or longed for) the familiar, it is this year. I wonder what Fred Rogers would say to children about 2020. I wonder what he could say to us.

Eve eve. Love it. And the routine of it all is comforting. This year is, again, a touch of the familiar and a touch of bull goose loony.

I remember that anticipation of the good feeling accompanying a favorite book or of Christmas morning. I still do that by watching a favorite movie again.

Love, love, love this time of year and the “anticipation” that goes along with it. Our community does a small Christmas parade with lawn mowers decorated with Christmas themes and this year they outdid themselves with lights, music and decorations. And to top it off, we had snow yesterday. A GIFT to my heart and many of us that are kids heart. A Merry Christmas to you and the kiddo’s, Beth! Stay healthy and safe. ❤

T’was the night before the night before Christmas and all through our flat all the creatures were chatting, even the cat . . . although that may be because we are already celebrating the anticipation here too. Merry Christmas, Beth!
