my doormat without a sunday paper on it.
—
my very kind paper man
told me to just text him if i was ever missing a paper
he would drive over to deliver it
i love the sunday paper and especially the crossword
love throwing open my door on a sunday morning
the paper patiently waiting for me on my door mat
love opening it
with a fresh cup of steaming coffee
and diving in
but alas
the day came
when it wasn’t there
i sent a gentle text to my paper man
saying there was no sunday paper waiting for me today
he very quickly responded to say –
that is because today is saturday.
ah, i thought.

Haha – I love the way you talk about looking forward to the paper. We stopped our newspaper delivery about 10 years ago and it was a huge adjustment. I always loved looking through it in the mornings while drinking my tea. Now I read the papers online through a library subscription – not exactly the same feel. Your post brought me back! Here’s to the Sunday crossword!

By the end of this month, we should all have the days right. I have to look at my phone, where the day and date are prominently displayed, to know what today is…

This one brought a smile! Glad to see a Murakami quote, he is one of my favorites. Time always seems to flow in strange ways in his stories.

Welcome to my world.. I bought my husband an anniversary card days before the event. You think I could find it that morning? NOPE. Turned the house upside down I was so mad..found the anniversary card I lost the previous year so he got that one instead.

After being retired for years, one day is just like another (well, except for weekend sports on TV). Many’s the morning I wake up not knowing (or caring) what day it is. Sounds like you’ve reached that serene time of life (or maybe just practicing in anticipation for when it comes).

still in the practicing stage, but not too far off, and I get like that in the summers normally –

Since I’ve been retired, everyday is Saturday. You’ve made me realize how much I miss a Sunday paper. The last husband was allergic to news print so I learned to live without it. Hmmm. That mat looks lonely.

:-)) Beth, you cracked me up this morning. Yes, I love my sunday paper too. When my babies were little, sunday morning with cup of coffee and newspaper and quite house were my favorite way of spending the weekend. Now, my boys wake up before me and keep a cup of coffee ready for me by the time I get ready. I am enjoying this way too 🙂
