the moment i hit the ‘update’ button
i am instantly
seized by regret
remembering/realizing/knowing
at some point
in the process
it will get stuck loading
some passwords won’t survive
random things
will be in different colors
found in new places
new languages could play a role
as i await the update on my updates
the countdown until it’s complete will continue slowly, sporadically, and take until near-forever
but in the end
at least my garage band app will be current and my gas stove controls may be linked to my podcast list
so that’s something.

Yup, the sad story of updates. 😭

I’m one who can relate as well. I’ve had an update available on my iPhone for more than a month now that I refuse to use because updates on my phone always cause some kind of problem! However, the computer doesn’t allow me to opt out if I want to turn off the machine – it gives me no choice then!

If your next-to-last line isn’t the truth, I don’t know what is. Turn up the podcast and bake your cake at the same time…too funny!

there is always that last-second sense of uncertainty, but then once you hit the button, it’s out of your hands.
and I hope you are now controlling your gas stove through your podcast app…

Amen. Sometimes my laptop is so slow because I have an update going on in the background that started before I actively logged on. It took a day and a half for Windows 11 to fully load and install. And right now… I am on my phone, waiting for windows to load. UPDATE…. indeed. Have a great day.

Thank you. When it works, it’s amazing and that is most of the time but when it doesn’t…..One Friday night I turned off my school computer after staying late to work on grades and it took 45 minutes for the updates! Today the restart only took 17.. so I did laundry and called my aunt to talk.

Let’s just take a moment to admire Dr Ehlrich’s wisdom….. I made this very experience today by ‘finally’ – after uncountable ‘invites’ – updating my smartphone. Not such a smart move but I couldn’t put it off any longer. Now I have to re-boot it AGAIN because I can’’t get phone calls any more. Just great!!!!
Funny addendum: I knew of a very well known Dr Ehrlich (long dead and that also loooong before the invention of computers) – and of course I had to google that writing, it took me just about forever to find YOUR Paul Ehlrich – he’s not known at all over here. That doesn’t take anything away from the spoken truth, mind you.

That’s the truth. Yesterday, my WP app was stuck. Website down, app not working for about 15 minutes. Looked online to see what the issue might be…need to understand tech-speak to even attempt a fix. 😅😔😤
