up for a stroll?

Standard

The longest road in the world to walk is from Cape Town (South Africa) to Magadan (Russia).

No need for planes or boats, there are bridges.

It’s 22,387 km and it takes 4,492 hours to run it.

It would be 187 days walking non-stop, or 561 days walking 8 hours a day.

The route passes through 17 countries, six time zones and all seasons of the year.

“all walking is discovery, on foot we take the time to see things whole.”

  1. This would have been an amazing road to walk, but unfortunately in this day and age it is practically impossible, given the circumstances of war and terrorism which abounds on every turn of that road. Quite a shame that our civilisation is going backwards, de-evolution at its highest point…

  2. oh my goodness. that sounds a tad ambitious…. but also super cool and if I were a rambler/wanderer/scout (all of which I’m not, most definitely NOT) I could warm to the idea of, let’s say, a two year walking trip!

  3. Once, when I was on a backpacking trip with some buddies, we ran into a couple of young guys who took a year off to hike the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail that runs from Canada to Mexico. They wanted to know what was going on in the world.

  5. I’ve driven part of that route!

A roadtrip from England to Mongolia in 2007 led me along the transiberian highway to the north of Kazakhstan and on to Lake Baikal before heading south.

I’ll do it again in the future as I’d like to dip my toes in the Atlantic at the beginning and end with my feet wet in the Pacific.
