not my dad, but similar to his 70s denim suit that really made a bold statement

happy birthday to my dad, no longer with us, but whose sense of style remains.

The classic “Canadian Tuxedo” look. Kudos to your father for being such a fashion-plate!

once again you’ve inspired me, Beth; if I remember — I’ve been out with my mates carousing — I’ll put up my denim post tomorrow; cheers to dad 🙂

Denim? Your dad was sooooo lucky. Mine had a bright red polyester leisure suit that I made in my home economics class. Being an exceptionally good daddy, he actually wore it. In public.

We do remember the strangest (well not really – maybe different) things about our dads that maybe no one else does.
My father was a col in the army and or course looked very spiffy in his uniform. But I remember him best in his work coveralls down in the basement where he did his woodworking projects. I loved making little roads in the sawdust. 🙂

You are so right and am terrified to see w ha at my daughters remember of me. The perm, the leg warmers, who knows. Love the memory of your dad

Speaking of perms ….
For years my husband would give me perms. Yes, you read that correctly! And no, he is not a hairdresser. But he learned to roll and re-roll and all the rest of it .. in less than 5 hours. And I never came out frizzy.
Oh, BTW he is an economics major. A $aturday morning well $pent!
That’s how my kids might remember us. 😦

Cheers to our dads’ styles past, Beth. Denim never goes off the racks, I say. Sadly I must report that I somehow followed my father’s cue to a leisure suit jacket when I was young and impressionable. That imprint did not last long in my lineup … nor in the stores!

Happy-Your-Dad’s-Birthday Beth. I don’t remember my dad wearing this outfit….but we were little and we wore them! Dad had the white tie, white belt, white socks thing going on.

It’s just these sorts of trivial details that fill our memories of our parents, and I’m glad they do.
Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

I’m not sure my dad ever wore denim. In his later years, he was very fond of flannel, but denim? It just wasn’t his thing. I grew up wearing it. Still do, most every day.

I think it was the nature of his business, advertising, and being trendy, whether a good luck or not, was a thing)

My dad was an airline pilot. He looked good in his uniform. At home it was khakis and flannel.

Denim suits and high heel shoes for men were quite the thing apparently, lucky for me I was too young to have to make that fashion statement!~

I didn’t own a pair of jeans until 1990, when I was 38 years old. I bought them to wear when riding a motorcycle in London, to protect my legs if I had an accident. Until then, I had never considered them to be smart enough. I only ever thought of them as ‘workwear’.
I haven’t owned any since the year 2000, even though I am hardly very smartly dressed these days.
Best wishes, Pete.

What a unique tribute to your dad. I just read an article that 70s styles are returning. Fringe. Bold graphics and hues. If only I had some of my 70s clothes. Oh, that’s right, they wouldn’t fit me.

Denim forever! I grew up in blue jeans, was devastated when the school said girls couldn’t wear them anymore. But my dad was a doctor. I don’t recall that he ever wore denim, although I’ve no recollection of what he did wear on days off.

That’s one of the cooler 70s looks, I liked. I don’t think my dad had a denim suit but for sure something similar in this typical brown fabrics.
