kids don’t.
we do.”

I would have loved to see this exhibit too. What a walk down memory lane that would be. Great quote and, like you, I seemed to survive.

Can’t read the details but I am sure we did ONLY play games being on the ‘dangerous/forbidden’ list. And are here to tell the tales 😀
Shortly before my mum died, I told her that I took my younger sister on her roller blades, and me on an old bicycle to which young sis held on- to the village where my granny lived. But we never went to see her because we were strictly forbidden to leave the estate. Granny lived some 15km from home and we had to cross unprotected railway lines…. I hope I didn’t speed up her death, I now come to think of!

As kids we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and started all over again.
At least 10 times a day.

And we wonder why kids are growing up feeling entitled? So today they play with guns…..

In hindsight I had some amazing escapes from injury and had a better life because of it I believe, not that I would say that to my own children, but then there’s the contradiction !!

Oh the things we used to do. Remember when our playgrounds were metal implanted in concrete or blacktop?

I bet it was a great exhibit. Yes, children don’t break like we think they will. Most of us survived concrete playgrounds with jungle gyms.

I am constantly amazed that I made into adulthood. Looking back, I was reckless child. But were we not all immortal at that age?

My husband and I talk about this occasionally, how we managed to survive “dangerous” playgrounds and lots of other “dangerous” activities, especially as farm kids. We have some scars. But we made it. Many safety improvements have been good, like bike helmets, etc. But sometimes I feel like parents are “too protective,” worrying about every little thing. That said, as a grandma I find myself being more cautious with the grandkids than my own kids because I don’t want anything to happen to them on my watch.

It’s a matter of finding a reasonable balance, I think

And in addition to all those dangerous toys, I was a free range child. These days they’d have called the police on my parents for allowing that. And yet, here I am. Here we all are.

Truth, all. I desperately want to see this exhibit. 😅 I bet I played with them al too. Ending quote is just so. Kids are so resilient, and adults are more so than they realize.
