“for this, let gardens grow, where beelines end, sighing in roses, saffron blooms, buddleia; where bees pray on their knees, sing, praise in pear trees, plum trees; bees are the batteries of orchards, gardens, guard them.” ― Carol Ann Duffy, The Bees
I wonder how the folks who make a living cutting grass etc feel about it.
Maybe they will have to charge twice as much on the next round.
My son put himself through high school mowing.
Plus those subdivision fee$$$$. The $$ goes partly to keep lawns mowed. I wonder if they will return a portion of the fee$ to the homeowner since there will be less mowing. An emergency meeting will probably be called.
We have rocks in our front yard and the deer manage the back.
Given the rate and height at which grass can grow in a month, I wonder how anyone will manage to mow the long long long grass. I understand the philosophy behind this movement, but…
I haven’t had my yard mowed for “No Mow May”! It’s worth it, for the bees and other pollinators! Course, I don’t really like a mowed yard anyway, so…*smiles*
The Beetley Bees will be pleased to know that I have not mown my grass since September 2021. I might need a machete to tackle it next month!
Best wishes, Pete.
Every farmer’s friend! Great post, Beth!

I’ve been a very good friend to the bees. My backyard is now a field of puffballa. I admit to looking forward to June 1st… 😏

My lawn and my sensibilities just would not let me join in for a no-mow May, Beth.

Bees may be wonderful but not when they buzz all around you and make you wonder if they’re going to sting you!

It’s hard for a lot of people to understand that if bees were to disappear, life as we know it would disappear as well.

I am unintentional in the no mow may. We planted our front yard and it is growing (not well) but we are not mowing. Now I won’t.

My HOA wouldn’t allow this. Nor would they allow a xeriscaped front yard.

There are quite many advantages to letting grow what wants to grow. I just thought about it lately… no stress with weeding.
