cast of the original star trek series
—
“star trek was an attempt to say that humanity
will reach maturity and wisdom
on the day that it begins not to just tolerate,
but take a special delight
in differences in ideas and differences in life forms.”

That was the only Star Trek I ever watched. Never bothered with the later versions.
Best wishes, Pete.

I loved the original too, and same here –

I have always found it interesting that in order to show a utopian and inclusive future, Rodenberry had to get rid of money. It is never mentioned in the series.

I’ve watched nearly every version, and that ideal carries through.

I remember the series like it happened yesterday.
Actually better than yesterday….have no idea what happened yesterday

isn’t that the truth?)

And still people watch it and love it and yearn, Beth.

Yes, very true. The thing is that we aren’t seriously trying

I agree with Sadje. Nothing will change until enough people see that change is needed.

it has to start somewhere, even if it’s just by taking baby steps

Very well said by the Star Trek creator, but I just don’t know when that day will arrive on Earth…

I felt like, even though they were very different, Star Trek and the Twilight Zone we’re very similar. The underlying messages about humanity were very powerful. The world can certainly learn a lot from the messages of both shows.
Star Trek is a great example of acceptance and compromise. How often did Kirk have feelings for and kiss and alien being? Too often we see other humans with different viewpoints, different ethnicities, or different skin color and treat them as an “alien” because of them.
One day I hope people will realize that when you think about race – there is only one thing to know: we are all part of one race … The human race.

Star Trek has always been full of good examples and food for thought. We need more of both.

The original was the best, and I think the quote is quite apt.

It’s funny the things you notice when you look back. I never knew that William Shatner was setting the groundwork for the V neck. 🤣

Funny what we thought future diversity looked like back when that Star Wars show was introduced.

Wise words. Star Trek (the original) is one of my fave ever shows.
I have never seen even 1 Star Wars. Guess I’m just old fashioned.
