foghorn leghorn of television fame
and yet another wonderful nextdoor post on my neighborhood site:
Did you have a chicken missing? We have a Leghorn chicken who appeared in our back yard this morning. She is now in our coop with our three, However, we really don’t need or want another chicken so if she is yours, please message me to arrange a time to come and collect her. We have marked her feet with a purple antiseptic so we can identify which one is yours.

Community notice boards are a great use of the Internet. I hope the chicken is reuinted with its owner. (I used to love the Foghorn Leghorn cartoons. Mel Blanc’s original voice for Foghorn was perfect.)
Best wishes, Pete.

I’m not convinced Emerson said that about chickens crossing the road. I searched for a while but couldn’t turn up a specific essay or speech in which Emerson said that.

So now of course I must wonder how many roads did the found chicken have to cross to end up in the new coop, Beth?

Perhaps the chicken ran away from where he was because he was tired of being cooped up? In that case, my heart goes out to him for now being cooped up with strangers!

Haven’t seen any lost chickens on our NextDoor. But there have been at least two lost parakeets.

Ah Waldo. He would say the chicken was motivated by whim which needs no explanation. ” I shun father and mother and wife and brother when my genius calls me. I would write on the lintels of the doorpost, Whim. I hope it is somewhat better than whim at last, but we cannot spend the day in explanation.” That’s why. The chicken wanted to. “What the heck. I’m crossing the road.”

What a wonderful post. I hope the chicken finds her way home. But it’s nice that she has a friendly place to stay. I also hope they can cross the road without being questioned. In a perfect world…maybe.

I have had two weird encounters like this with animals in my life. We came home from work one day and found evidence (cow patties and chewed-up, uneven grass.) We never found out how they got there or where they went to. While we live in an open area, none of our neighbors own cows, to my knowledge. Another day, I went outside to grab my paper in the morning, and three peacocks were sitting on my roof. They stayed there for a couple of hours. I tried calling animal control, looking for advice. When I got off the phone, they were gone.

I agree with Waldo, chickens should not be questioned as to why they cross the road. And, where’s Waldo?
