when walking by the river
—
“today is one of those excellent january partly cloudies
in which light chooses an unexpected part of the landscape to trick out in gilt,
and then the shadow sweeps it away.
you know you’re alive. you take huge steps,
trying to feel the planet’s roundness arc between your feet.”

huron river, argo park, ann arbor, mi, usa – january 2023
We have bright January sunshine today, to go with the freezing temperatures. But is is invigorating to walk in, feeling the crunch of the hard ground under your shoes, and the sun on your face.
Best wishes, Pete.

I love Annie Dillard’s nature writing: I have a copy of ‘Pilgrim at Tinkers Creek’ tucked away somewhere —

January sunshine is elusive, but I caught some on Saturday and saw it again Sunday. Whatever the day brings, I’ll take it. I am sure you enjoyed your walk along the river’s edge. Stay well. Peace.

yes, grab it where you can in January, and it was a very peaceful walk

I shall have to start using that term… Partly cloudies. I love when that happens. One little section lit up.

I love walking along a rushing river, its sound drowning out everything else. So relaxing. Here we get a lot of “partly sunny” along with “partly cloudies.” Not sure what the difference is.

Depends on how you approach it, I think

Beautiful image, which makes me a bit envious as I look upon my snow-covered Minnesota landscape with more snow falling. No snow in your part of Michigan, or has it melted?

Only very briefly at Christmas, it’s so unusual

We’ve gotten so much snow already this winter. Too many major storms that I’ve lost count. This latest brought about seven inches. Heading outside shortly to help with snow removal.
