and on the third day, she rested.

Imagewith the first blizzard of 2014 still ongoing, and crazy outdoor games behind me, 12-18 inches of snow on the ground, and temps with a high of 2f, it is a day to sink down into the cottage, away from the outside world, the cold, the snow, the people, the noise, the light.

today is all about books and music and movies and cup of my chernoblyl blend coffee and time spent creating art and writing and napping and a warm bath, and soft pajamas and softer blankets – calm, warm, peaceful, quiet, cozy, comfort. and i will embrace every slow minute of it.

  1. No snow in Richmond, VA, but reading your post makes me want to sink into my sofa – pull a soft blankie around me and read a great book. Love the quote…so true. Enjoy the “softness” today, Beth. And an abundant thank you for liking my recent post, Pieces.

  2. Your idea seems fabulous. I have been stuck indoors for days with my children, and I am yearning to get out! I guess we all want what we dont have:) Enjoy your snow day!

  3. Weather … in this case your neck of the woods … 12″ – 18″ of snow: wow. Or, rather, WOW! Actually, I don’t know where your neck of the woods is. I make it a point to not ask about that, of bloggers. But curiosity is elevated. What is the general area of your realm where you are in the inside today, with the blizzard protocol? We get snow like that at different times, here in the Rocky Mountains. Hey, before I sign off: 1) What is up with your writing? How did you get to where you can write like this? I’m not jealous – – – just envious; 2) your images are primo; 3) have yourself a good, good, 2014. T

    • i happen to live in the beautiful state of michigan, home of 4 amazing seasons and everything in between. as for my writing, i have always loved the alphabet, letters, words and taught myself to read at 4 out of a longing to understand the code in all of the books around me. i enjoy creating collage art using cut out words, letters, pictures and making books and cards for people. i always gift them and never sell them and it makes me happy just to know they’re enjoying what i’ve created. kind of like my blog, i enjoy mixing images and words and creating a feel for a thought or a story or an observation. i don’t have a style really other than what springs from my heart. thank you so much )

  4. Stopping by from Coach Daddy. Wow, I want to get snowed into this little cottage of yours! In Northeast Tennessee, we just have a dusting of snow and lots of wind. Just enough to delay the daycares and wipe out the milk & bread at the grocery store!

  7. I’d offer to send you some warmth from NC, but we’re not much warmer than Michigan. Oh heck, what are friends for? Tell you what. I’ll send you 8 degrees and we can both be at 10 degree F. 🙂

Stay warm and enjoy the reading!

    • oh it was wonderful and more snow on the way sunday, so perhaps a snow day monday? today i read a book called the ‘charlotte perkins gilman reader’. a group of short stories by a feminist author way ahead of her time, and published in the early 1900s. she has an incredible story of overcoming the expected roles of women in her time to become her own person, no easy task. loved her story and the stories she wrote ) (Her most famous story is ‘the yellow wallpaper’. amazing)

  8. Oh, perfect post! I think that after all those chilly times where you managed to be quite a faithful fan, time to regroup and have a lovely time where it is warm and cozy! I am like you, often like my fuzzy pajamas, blankets, library or redbox rentals and books, magazines and newspapers. I watch and multitask, but somehow feel, oh so relaxed, too! Smiles and hugs, Robin

  10. Beth, I keep thinking I am following you, yet, I don’t have any of your posts coming into my inbox. I shall remedy that right now, sign in and out.
Thank you for being so kind and supportive of my posts. I am ever grateful Jen led me to you.
I intend to catch up on all your posts. This one caught my eye – for writing, napping, warm bath with some of my vegan Mediterranean gel, creating, soft pajamas( my favorite) hot chocolate and peace is my perfect day. I love your blog.
It hasn’t been too cold here. Our lowest so far has been 21F. I live North of San Francisco.. But any excuse to wear the warmest, snuggliest pajamas… I am there.
So glad you got a rest.

  11. Love the Goethe quote and sepia tone to this post and photo…feels like my day, today, without the snow! We’ve got the wind and rain, but it’s nice to watch the big trees sway, sort of trance-like.
