― a
show or tell?
― a
advice from the kinder to the parents of a classmate’
about how to take care of their new baby.
one so sweet
one filled with adventure
all the others equally from the heart
everyone has their own unique way of approaching parenthood.
“folks, i don’t trust children. they’re here to replace us.”
i hear it over and over again
even coming out of my own mouth
and wonder how and why
we ever began the tradition
of talking to our pets in baby talk.
they must consider us to be quite simple people
ever working on our vocabulary and articulation
always hoping that some day
we might master our own language.

“i’ve seen a look in dogs’ eyes,
a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt,
and i am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.”

“my stroller of choice is the graco classic.
it’s the ’70s buick of strollers, bulky with a complete absence of style.
there are no good lines on a graco.
yes, it has cup holders, like any self-respecting car or stroller does these days,
but the luxuries stop there.”

from the rhythm and music section of my baby book:
“loves to hear record player going or any music at 15 months.
attempts to dance to it and complains when music stops.”
not one part of this has changed except for my age.

“music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.”
