workspace.

Standard

sign above the desk:

“hello customers, welcome to the garage. i am your 4th floor guardian m-f after 4pm.”

we happened upon this happy workspace in a most unlikely place

with a comfy swivel chair occupied after 4pm

a christmas card that says ‘joy’

a boom box

a tiny desk

a plastic plant that dances

an air freshener

a snow globe

a piece of hanging art

and a welcoming sign

what a wonderful workspace

everything someone would need

what a special person

who welcomes you

watches over you

 keeps you happy and safe

on the 4th floor

a safe haven in the world.

“i’ve got a theory; if you love your workspace, you’ll love your work a little more.”

a gift.

Standard

when someone in our class

got injured while playing outside

the kinder quickly sprang into action

creating art and cards for their friend

23 pieces of art from 14 children

given to her to know she was cared about

a quiet smile was her gift back to them.

moved.

Standard

today a ladybug stopped by our classroom veterinary clinic

the kinder docs looked at it closely with a magnifying glass

decided it might be having trouble flying

after much discussion, more close looks, a few notes on a paper, a phone call,

and a blood pressure check of one of the other docs

their good care and magic worked

and the ladybug flew away home.

“true compassion means not only feeling another’s pain but also being moved to help relieve it.”

falling.

Standard

it was a quiet, simple act

a couple walking in my direction

 stopped

 the man bent down

to tie his companion’s shoe

and in this tiny moment

revealed his heart.

“let me tie your shoes. i don’t want you tripping and falling for someone else.”

missing her.

Standard

when the kinders learned that their classmate

was injured and recovering at home

they quickly gathered

to make their friend a special card

wishing her well

and

letting her know

in their own way

how much they were missing her.

“without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.”

Boars🐗, frogs🐸, naga🐲, lions🦁and tigers🐯 and elephants🐘, oh my!

During the BBC’s coverage of the ongoing cave rescue operation in Thailand, they came across this adorable cartoon by Bangkok-based illustrators Sisidea, which caught their attention after it was shared on Facebook by the Thai Navy Seal team.

This is what Aruni Aunhawarakorn and Jantima Manasviyoungkul (the people who drew the picture) had to say:  “We are so, so happy at the news and our cartoon shows our appreciation from the Thai people – to everyone around the world who have been involved in the search as well as those [unsung heroes] who haven’t been mentioned.”

“from caring comes courage.”

animal instincts.

Standard

when glenn had to go through painful surgery

and was at last home again

tiny sweet olive

approached him gently

touched her head to his

let him eat their favorite food first

and moved quietly

next to him

at his special place by the window

just lying there

in silence

for hours on end

while he recovered

offering him

the quiet comfort

of their tender friendship.

“besides love and sympathy,

animals exhibit other qualities

connected with the social instincts

which in us would be called moral.”
