collective joy in graffiti alley
ann arbor, mi – summer 2018
“the urge to transform one’s appearance, to dance outdoors,
to mock the powerful and embrace perfect strangers is not easy to suppress.”
-Barbara Ehrenreich, Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy
as the baby ballerinas wait backstage for their moment in the sun
emotions are mixed.
and at last
they are in the spotlight.
and one little dancer goes rogue.
and decides to go solo.
and that is a sure sign.
that she is one of my clan.
and i love her even more for that.
Dancing is just discovery, discovery, discovery. ~Martha Graham
