when the guts of my electronic car key
mysteriously disappeared a month ago
after having coffee with my friend
i searched everywhere
and tried to consider every possible scenario
wondering how the insides came out
and where they went
between the time i had coffee
and the time i returned to my car.
flash ahead to now –
i finally surrendered
went to the dealer
showed them the empty fob
to get their opinion
said they had never seen anything like it before
gave me the number to contact their corporate headquarters
to get them to cover a replacement
when i got home
i was cleaning out my office/art studio/room of fun
putting away a gift
that my same coffee friend had returned with from ireland
it was put in a bag from a local store
wrapped in tissue paper
as i went to throw out the bag
i pulled out the tissue
tipped over the bag
(that held the gift i had opened before but not yet put away)
and
out fell
a small black and red item
i took a closer look
there was the missing inside piece from my key.
it had been returned to me through some twist of fate
literally fell right into my hands
in much the same sudden and unexpected manner
that it had disappeared
one month and one country later.

I am trying to reconstruct the life I led prior to computers and facebook and columns and animal saving and book writing…I am finding that this type of maddening occurrence which you reference is happening to me multiple times DAILY and NIGHTLY…I am now understanding edgar allan poe type craziness in my own aging soul…either my mom is haunting/taunting me from beyond…or gremlins? don cares not one whit about what I am going through…rod serling, where are you?

dealer showed me there is a tiny screw in the back, the size of a pindot, and somehow it worked it’s way out. while in my pocket. and then how did the piece end up where it did?

That, is where the story comes in….. that you have to now make up.

So pleased it turned up. I wonder why it jumped into the bag in the first place. Maybe it thought it would be going travelling – those little car trips are not travel enough! 🙂

I lost my cell phone a few months ago. Retraced every step I had taken from the time I last held it in my hand until the time I noticed it was gone. It was a small area of space and time that passed between having it and losing it. Still a mystery. Kind of like socks that go in the washer and are never seen again.

so frustrating. yes, like the socks – maybe it will turn up in a random gift bag at christmas.

it is so weird how you lost the key and then it appears just as strange as how you lost it to begin with. But I am glad that the mystery is solved even it it did take a month to solve. ❤ ❤

LOL. Life is ironic. Sometimes when you stop looking is when you find what you need. Glad your inner key has returned.

Hi Beth, June 13th is the feast day of St Anthony who is often invoked by the Irish to find lost items. (The prayer goes something like “Dear St Anthony please come around, something’s lost that can’t be found. Amen”) Coincidence?

In our going, Beth … as you know, as well as I know … we are releasing, and embracing, sometimes the releasing is not what we planned for or what we prefer, and sometimes the embracing is not what we planned for or prefer … Great quote … We need to keep searching. Good post, my friend.

Circular and lovely ending! 🎩
My Dad used to say it isn’t until you curse the ‘gods of lost things’ and make a fool of oneself then the item will return by same gremlins!!’
I have anounced I am missing something (except the summer of two stolen purses) and have people stop what they are doing to help me search. . . Voila! Magically appears!
