World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on October 16th in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development

Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That’s about one in nine people on earth.

“we know that a peaceful world cannot long exist,

one-third rich and two-thirds hungry.”

  2. the figure is over 800 million, perhaps it’s time we all ate a little less, a 20% reduction couldn’t hurt, and it would save all those calories, yes, we live in a world where there are those who go without food for fashion sake, while so many simply starve to death, a bit unbalanced, and a looming famine on the way, ….you’d look better ……

  3. Wise words from one of my very favorite presidents! Last I heard was that about 20% of Oregon children go to bed hungry at night! If hunger and food insecurity happen in the richest country on earth, I can’t even imagine impact of this in the developing world. Difficult to understand how food can’t be distributed more evenly!
