setting up spotify
there were many choices
this one or that one?
more of this or less of this?
pass by or play?
i thought i had a cool, eclectic, quirky sense of taste in music
until it was spelled out for me with some such statement:
“it seems like you’ve selected almost all 70s and 80s music.
you’re obviously most drawn to the music of these decades.
we’ll be customizing your playlist to reflect your taste.
what? called out by spotify? did i know that?
did i know that, but was in denial?
did i think i was cooler than i really am?
was spotify judging me?
while i do like a huge range of music
(especially the irish bards and americana)
it’s clear where my musical heart lies.
—
my taste in music ranges from
“here, listen to this”
to
” i know, please don’t judge me.”

Wait and see, if he can dance, and sing in tune….
… Love this new song released by “Hollow Coves”(Aussie) last week, called “Evermore”, and it’s lovely video as well….

I quit apologizing… my kids let me know everyday I’m so not cool! Or at least they did until Tick Tock started spinning some remixed oldies (oldies? ‘90’s? – nooooooooo) and I know ALL the lyrics. My kids, shock and awe, are like “Mom, how do you know this song?” Lol

me too and I so get that. funny how my daughters now love many of the songs they grew up listening to with me

Oh, I remember the days when being tech fresh at a party was loading six CDs into the deck and pressing shuffle, Beth. Nowadays I fall back to the 70s and 80s so much, too. (And I still own that very same CD player.)

Hmm…. I think we gravitate towards the music which we listened to as young adults.

Oh I wouldn’t even dare asking Spotify for ‘my’ list of music….. I’m a Baroque Music PERSON BUT ADORE LISTENING TO ALL KINDS OF ‘THER’ MUSIC, JAZZ, SOUL, SOME VERY LITTLE RAP, HIP-HOP, JUST PLAIN GOOD SINGING OF ALL KINDS AND STYLES….. BUT (SADLY FOR YOU) NOT A FAN OF AMERICAN COUNTRY MUSIC. BUT SINCE I’0M NOT AMERICAN, I MIGHT BE FORGIVEN…?!
Oh and sorry for the all caps. Writing on iPad and never realising until I push send. Fully unintentional – no message hidden!

I truly do like all kinds, though am not much of a country fan either, except for old Johnny Cash.

I’ve been a musician all of my life, but when I do crosswords I’m not knowing the modern artists. My listening is, pretty much, limited to stuff before 2000. Except, of course, for artists I’ve been following forever. I like it all.

Isn’t it interesting how these devices “know” you? Oh, and it sounds like you have the BEST musical taste!

My tastes are so eclectic that I could practically see Spotify throwing up its hands and saying “look, we’ll just throw a bunch of music at you and let you figure it out.”

I’m with you, Beth. They were my times musically too but I do listen a few hours a week to indie music on JJJ just to keep up with what’s going down — but there are so few gems to my taste — though there are a few like ‘Charlie’ by Mall Rat and ‘The Boy With the Winfields and Wild, Wild Heart’ by Flowerkid and, of course, ‘Jelly fish’ bu Slowly Slowly. Great songs and terrific lyrics. Good as anything in my youth 🙂
Sorry. For a succinct guy I’m pretty verbose 🙂
