streets now closed to cars
on friday afternoons through sunday evenings
so people can move to the streets
to walk, talk, dine, and be distant
a pretty natural adaption.

Can’t beat that sense of liberation when traffic is excluded and the streets reclaimed. Lovely.

I love this idea. Simple, effective, and an easy way for people to safely reconnect with businesses and each other. Great post, Beth!

yes, most everyone loves it. certainly the restaurant owners and small shops in the area. only ones unhappy are a few drivers who complain they can’t drive straight through the town, but it’s and easy fix to just drive one street over

Wow that’s brilliant! It must be so nice to walk around and not see or hear a single car

it’s wonderful, and they are considering keeping some form of this in place once this crisis is all over. I hope they do.

They’d never do something like that where I’m from 🤦🏾♀️

What a great idea. What do you think it will be like when the college kids return?

All bets are off but our city, state, and uni are treading pretty carefully here. This area is on Main Street, mostly a townie enclave,it will another challenge entirely in the more student-populated parts of town

I love that we are seeing “car free” zones springing up all across the country. A chance for us to get out safely, and good for our mental health!

I LOVE this idea. All the restaurants I went to eat in had their outside tables on busy streets so I would be sucking up exhaust fumes. We design our cities without walk-ability in mind. I would love to live in an area where this was prominent.

yes, and they are considering keeping this tradition on weekends even after it is over

Wonderful!!!! Now who do I need to wake up here to that possibility?? Hmmm.
