one of my favorite people with a statement that still applies 60 years later
—
· “no moral, no message, no prophetic tract, just a simple statement of fact.
for civilization to survive, the human race has to remain civilized.”

Sixty years later, his words are just as true and, unfortunately, still so necessary. Great post, Beth!

Great quote from “The Shelter.”
It’s amazing how some of the “lessons” or “morals” from shows like Star Trek and The Twilight Zone still are just as powerful and meaningful today as they were back in the 60’s.

This man was wise in many ways. He foresaw the way they have now defined some people and some activities as “essential” and “non-essential” and even produced a very good episode about it and this quote, this way of thinking that you have shown us that he said is also very profound. I am a fan.

That doesn’t seem too Twilight Zone-ish to be true still, for sure, Beth.

Can it really have been 60 years ago!? What a great series that was. Even now I can almost hear him speaking those words. TV hasn’t always been a vast wasteland.

I worry that our society is moving away from being civilized to each other. Praying that the pendulum swings around…

I think that’s true. We all king of believed that we knew what it meant, but now, I’m not so sure. There’s so much greed and so many lies. Violence and hatred. Destruction and division. I don’t think we can agree on what being civilized means any longer. Not after trump and his followers.

This is the kind of message we should be promoting. I don’t think it’s too late. There are too many good people doing good things…that are not paid attention to (by the bigger picture at large.)

that may of been true then but not these days. If everyone became “civilized” but the population increased to 15 billion,we would kill each other with our sheer numbers. We would drain the oceans, forests and all resources! Which would have the affect of making us very uncivilized I suspect?

i guess it depends on how you view ‘civilized.’ part of that is respecting the earth
