much love to my three daughters, each one now a mother too, on mothers day.

even if i only rarely called you by your right name on the first try.

“mothers are not the nameless,

faceless stereotypes

who appear once a year on a greeting card with their virtues set to prose,

but women who have been dealt a hand for life

and play each card one at a time the best way they know how.

no mother is all good or all bad,

all laughing or all serious,

all loving or all angry,

ambivalence rushes through their veins.”

    • thank you, and I loved it because my 3 daughters’ names all start with the same letter (I’m a fan of alliteration), but I’ve rarely called them by their right names on the first try )

  1. Happy Mother’s Day, Beth.
This is so funny. I am one of ten. My mother would go through all the names and would finally tell me, ‘You know who you are’! (Sometimes, still, I’m not really sure. 😂)

  2. Happy Mother’s Day, Beth! The meme and post are both so perfect for this day! My Mom had three girls, too, and we answered to every name! Lol Today, my grandma would have been celebrating her 110th bday! We always remember her around the table too. 💛

  3. Hope you had a wonderful mother’s day, Beth! My mom always yelled out all 3 of my sister’s names (by accident, meaning to call the other) when we were in trouble and the one she was summoning was always the last name she called lol…
