cuckoo.

Standard

when we walked into a store

filled with nothing but cuckoo clocks

i really had to wonder

how long would it take before this made the workers a bit cuckoo?

who has to reset them all and keep them running?

do they dream of the little birds popping out, and little people dancing in a circle?

do they hear the sounds every 15 minutes even when not working?

do they use their employee discount to buy clocks for their homes?

do they have any long term employees?

do they give you a cuckoo clock when you retire?

‘since both of its  national products, snow and chocolate, melt,

the cuckoo clock was invented

solely in order to give tourists something solid to remember it by.’

  3. A late friend had a cuckoo clock that was put together wrong, so it said “oo-coock” and I always loved that. There is a bird in the forest where I hike, maybe a type of dove, that calls oo-coock, and I always think of my friend’s clock.

  4. I don’t have a cuckoo clock but I do have an antique mantel clock that strikes on the hour and once on the half-hour and tick-tocks 24/7.
When I forget to wrind it, the silence is deafening.
That said, don’t think I could handle all those cuckoo clocks either!!!

  5. “There’s a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say, “Cuckoo”
    Cuckoo, cuckoo” (Sound of Music)

We’ve loved acting out this song. But I think you are so right about the shop. Whew!

  6. Funny thoughts, Beth! And I can relate to those thoughts. Many years ago, we had friends over from the US. One day, they visited us and showed us proudly a cuckoo clock. I could never have such a piece at home… lol

  7. I got a kick out of some of your questions, especially, “Do they have any long-time employees?” It sees being locked in a room when all the cuckoos go off might be cruel and unusual punishment.

  8. Where we go to Amish Country there used to be a place that had the largest cuckoo clock on top of their roof. We always stopped to see it. Then they closed and the clock was sold and moved to another business somewhere.

  9. I always wonder WHO would invent such a film?! Because tbh, I have quite an overboarding imagination but making a film on different cuckoo clocks never entered my mind. Now that we speak of it…..
