  1. beth, this opened my heart wide – you sitting there in the floor, celebrating and dancing, a christmas parcel ribbon in your hair – the eternal child! wonderful ;)
and of course Mary – she’s one of the very great ones! thanks.
happy 4th advent and happy christmas days. i’m going to open my calendar now; i’m in for a treat, haven’t had a chance to check for 2 or even 3 days….

  2. How sweet you get to return to your former classroom. Must feel so nice to be with kids again. Solstice is one of my favourite days. Means days are getting longer again!!! Bit by bit, day by day. 🙏

  3. Love the magic of a picture book to teach a lesson or spark imagination and curiosity. Sometimes, I even pull out a picture book to share with my sixth graders…. There is magic (aka science) in the world and it is fun to share it. I bet it felt great to slide back into the classroom. Have a fabulous weekend. Peace

  4. The shorter days seem to bother other people more than me, though who doesn’t love a little sunshine in their life? I remember the combination of nostalgic and happy feelings of returning to my old classroom.

  5. I needed a teacher like you for times like this. Then maybe I wouldn’t tend to think of it as being like we finally reached the bottom and once again are headed back up toward the sunlight.

  6. it’s lovely you visited your old classroom, Beth and shared your presence with the students: they will miss you as wse miss the summer sun — though not here in Oz; ps love the poem ; I love all things Mary Oliver: I still have my hard back copy of ‘American Primitive’
