happy to welcome my kindergarten back yesterday, and not only the children, but the parents as well. i gain so much wisdom from them everyday. one mother, returning with her 3rd young child, reminded me of how she’s able to get everyone dressed and off to school on time. i have always seen this process as a minor miracle, having had to deliver 3 young ones to school at one point in my own life.
she told me she does the laundry and then simply dumps all of it into one giant pile. the kids then climb and all forage around it, until they are able to put an outfit together. and that’s it, they are ready for the day. no stress, and always an adventure for all. i think this is brilliant.
‘it’s better to have loved and lost than to do 40 pounds of laundry a week.’

Beth, Gosh I can not believe someone else has a clean laundry pile like mine… but not ’cause I like it but because I refuse to fold it.. daughter/mother demarcation dispute .. smiles. Although the cat thinks we have made a giant bed just for her !!

I think that laundry method works only for a while and then tends to metastisize through the rest of the house.

This is not too unlike what my Mom did with us 5 kids. We always had to pull our clothes out of a community laundry basket….

Among the many joys of college was, after the semi-monthly jaunt to the campus laudrymat, piling the clean, usually still warm clothes on the floor and laying in them. I never gave much thought to what had been and usually still was on the floor beneath the clothes, but it sure felt nice to be lying in something clean and warm. Of course, nothing ever got folded.

How about both at the same time. You won’t know if you are relieved because your lover has gone, or relieved because all the bloody laundry is done!! Virginia

I love the idea although I do not think I could put it into practice. I only had one girl and yet getting her dressed was always an adventure and still is even though she is now 21!!

I adore the new ways young mothers and fathers have of coping with what I used to think seemed like mountains of chores. I bet all of the children will be better when it comes to entering the world and able to make decisions than having all their clothing folded and placed in drawers in descending colors! I have rare moments now when I find I can actually throw a pile of clean laundry on the bed and go awan and leave it for most of the day.

i agree, it is sometimes hard to change our old habits and expectations, and it’s refreshing to cross paths with people who are not afraid to do things in a different way, and finding good results with the way they choose to do them. the bonus is the stress level is decreased for all –

I wouldn’t be able to give up some of my floor space for it, though. Unless I gave up dressers, too. Then I’d have more floor space. :-)
