happy all american pet day!
During President Kennedy’s time in office 21 animals lived at the White House.
Their pets included dogs, horses, and an assortment of smaller animals.

I see such joy from people with pets. I may, one day, have one again. I refuse to get a pet now knowing I would have to leave him/her too frequently.

yes, you’re right colleen. it seems to be pretty consistent across the board. it’s smart to consider quality time with a pet before you take one on. why i don’t have a dog, have gone the cat route due to their love of independence )

Love George Eliot’s quote, but she never met my cat. He has PLENTY of criticisms, and he knows how to express them:)

Must have had a stable nearby. Remember the horse w the boots in the stirrups backwards at his funeral?

Powerful imagery. I believe that is a tradition for members of certain military branches and perhaps presidents and perhaps started with the cavalry, but that’s merely a guess. Kennedy was in the Navy. Beyond the Gun Salute I don’t know how the Navy honors their dead. I love the Air Force’s Missing Plane formation flyovers where a jet leaves the formation and soars into the heavens.
