I have a friend in Australia who suggested this charity to me when I asked about giving. LeggyPeggy’s suggestion is good too. The reason these charities are important is that the firefighters in Australia are volunteers. Some employers will cover their wages while they are gone, but most don’t. That means these folks haven’t had a paycheck for 2-3 months. These funds go directly to the people who need it most.

Hi Sarah. One of the problems is that donations to the NSW Rural Fire Service do not go to the volunteers. The service can use the money for equipment, training and such. Celeste Barber is trying to come to an agreement in which the volunteers get a cut.

yes, they just returned to the states after a month’s visit. they were on the west coast, south of Perth, so they didn’t get the worst of it, but the whole continent is horribly impacted.
