on a walk in the beautiful early fall weather

taking in a bit of the world 

listening to music

a man came up beside me to say

‘you have quite a cadence.’

something i’d never heard or considered

 such a funny compliment 

and happily noted.

  4. First off, it is not fair to have a Thomas Gray quote. No. Not allowing a fair spoken, thought, spoken for movement and merry making of what is this fine poem. What next, Francis Thompson to frame an even happier sunlight walk across a frosty glade? I love this poem of yours. There is much I can do in terms of expressing what you already know and placed perfectly to turn the verse into differend of light and dark. Thank you for this nod and a waddle in a day when I said out loud, “I love this day, it is rain and cool wind off the meadow by “my” oak and elm grove. Daisy the Sweetest Boxer paced her daily inspection and romp along the fence line with the prance of a younger her; and yeah, much one of me as well. Her and me both more alive when the weather changes than in doldrums of a Georgia summer.”

    Your jest in the poem is right where it should be, it infuses each other word with images of smiles and and then of wanting found in the man who stands. Dig. Don’t make me love your lilts and stops the way I already do, move as found dancing in the fourth line of any great poem. Any great poem.

  9. Cadence has a broader definition that I thought:

    1 a modulation or inflection of the voice: the measured cadences that he employed in the Senate.
    • a modulation in reading aloud as implied by the structure and ordering of words and phrases in written text: the dry cadences of the essay.
    • a fall in pitch of the voice at the end of a phrase or sentence.
    • rhythm: the thumping cadence of the engines | try to vary your cadence during a run.
    2 a sequence of notes or chords comprising the close of a musical phrase: the final cadences of the Prelude.
