i love that someone has created a poster
with some of our more interesting twists and turns
and wonder about the mindset
of the road planning engineers.
were they perhaps going for
more of an ‘artsy’ and unexpected approach to the roads?
more like the road of life?
—
“life is full of surprises and serendipity. being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. if you try to plan every step, you may miss these wonderful twists and turns. just find your next adventure – do it well, enjoy it, and then, not now, think about what comes next.”
-Condoleezza Rice – Former U.S. Secretary of State
Wow! It is surprising to see this information given visually. I agree that your civil engineers seem to have minored in fine arts. All I can say it thank God for Uber!

How clever…a sort of hieroglyphics for the modern age.

Twist and Turn. Sounds like an old dance. We do not do the dance of life by ourselves. Every turn we make — someone else comes along. Make sure you know the dance and don’t step on others’ toes.

I would enjoy walking around Ann Arbor Beth … endlessly … lost … unable to find my way back to the point where I started!

Maybe your road engineers were designing while they were smoking cigarettes with more of a punch than was expected

Very possible, many things are legal here )

Oh yeah, great poster. And Dr. Rice’s thoughts are right on. I have a good friend, who teaches at the University, mention the, um, “creative” applications of road design.

Love this poster! Had no idea what it was because I hadn’t scrolled down enough to see the title. So I was just puzzling over the “symbols” for a minute or two.

Very cool poster. I think the highway sign is a little too clear to be believable 😉

yes, the intersections are real on the poster. the sign at the bottom is just a joke metaphor for life.

I got that. That’s why I didn’t think it was confusing enough 😉

Looks like a coded language. One I would never be able to crack. Give me a straight road with some bends in it through the country side. 🙂

At first sight, I thought it was some kind of exercising board… until I looked closer and saw that it cannot be 😂

That’s really funny. What were they thinking? It’s creative, that’s for sure. 🙂

I’m not sure this inspires confidence. What kind of things are you crazy kids doing in Ann Arbor?

I think it is more terrifying to see it on paper )

that’s a funny poster – what were those road designers thinking? maybe they were graduates of Ohio State…

Ohio state clearly has no civil engineering department )

maybe their marching band designed those intersections..

it’s amazing that the band members, I mean cars, don’t run into each other…

Yes! When we are present to what is being delivered, we go with those twists and turns, and, are really living and loving life. The quote is spot on.

I read this one night during my sabbatical from blogging and absolutely loved it: the twists and turns of life; don’t plan too far ahead; expect the unexpected — which reminds me of a poem I wrote a few years back; may put it up tomorrow

I grew up in Oklahoma, where everything is section lines. Almost everything but the rivers run due north/south or east/west. I got out of there and for the first few years I travelled I learned the hard way about the wagon wheel cities like Boston and New Orleans, the insanity of Southern California and cities where things looked like the Ann Arbor sign. In fact, my father’s comment about Dallas was that “they followed a drunk cowboy around one night and put a road wherever he walked.” I live in Dallas now and he was right. Thanks for the laugh.
