the kinder visited the farm today
met farmers megan and amy
said hello to the animals
had a tractor ride
saw the community garden
walked into the pumpkin patch
said thank you to the land and the plants
for making and sharing the pumpkins with us
they’ll give back
by planting the seeds from a pumpkin
to make new pumpkins at school
said thank you to the farmers
who taught us so much
who day in and day out
make all of the magic happen.

Great education for city/town kids. I didn’t have that when I was a youngster in London, as all the farms were too far away. Now I live in a village surrounded by nothing but farms. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

I think it’s good for everyone to experience, and now you get to live with it all around you

I so enjoyed staying at my Uncle’s & Aunty’s farm out at their Freshwater Creek during the school holidays … there were baby sheep to be hand-fed with a bottle, cows to be milked, chooks to fed, fruit and vegetables to be picked and then we would have a rest and eat some of aunty’s fluffy homemade sponge cake … those were days …

I love Wendell Berry. I think this throughout the year here, watching the potatoes start in the spring, the cuttings of hay, the barley and hops, all of it. Since I’ve never done it and will never do it it is a miracle to me. In my own small garden the miracles this year have been beans and squash teaching me, again, that all I have to do is be myself for something good to grow.

How lovely, Beth! I remember asking the kids where we got the milk. They said supermarket. How important it is to take the kids to a farm!! My granddaughter’s first field trip to the farm is coming up in two weeks! Yay!

Love the quote. I’d like to go to the pumpkin farm too. So much fun and wise to understands what it takes to grow our food at such a young age.
