when bringing my bike into the basement
to store it for the long winter ahead
this was just standing there waiting for me
how long has he been there?
where did he come from?
what did he want to say?
why was he there?
asking for a friend.

Many years ago, we received one of those German nutcrackers as a gift. It looked a bit creepy, and it was also pretty useless at cracking nuts! :)
Best wishes, Pete.

I was really surprised to find this one in the basement, and they’re more decorative than useful, I think

I’m worried about him. He looks sad. Maybe from loneliness

My granddaughter collects these. Quite a variety of them on the mantle during the holidays.

It’s amazing who our friends are. Always the last people/things we think it might be. Opposites do attract!

So this guy is in your own basement and you have no idea how it got there? Do you have any house mates that may know? Very weird indeed and I agree on the creepy factor.

As pretty as they are, they’re totally useless. Somebody tried to get rid of it.

Oh, he’s just ready for the season – a little too soon. Our granddaughter is going to be “Clara” in her studio’s Nutcracker ballet, so we’re hearing the music for months…and months. P.S. When I store my Christmas items in their boxes, I always whisper, “thanks, and til next year.” (yeah, I’m sappy that way)

Can’t wait. And for Christmas we’re taking her to the Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker (which we’ve done for 10 years straight). Obviously, your nutcracker is magical…

What a great find. Will you pass it on and surprise someone?

I think it was meant to be a collective surprise. It’s where my fellow condo dwellers all store bikes)
