i’m not quite there yet, but sometimes my ideas spring up so quickly that i really wish i had his super power.
instead, i write notes with one hand, on any scrap, napkin, rock, or available writing surface.
even though i’m only using one hand, trying to decipher it later is not always easy.
good thing i’m also into puzzles.

I can hardly even write block capitals with my left hand. His brain must be wired in a certain way. Impressive. :)
Best wishes, Pete.

Funny, just yesterday somebody discussed this very matter with me and I tried to write with both hands in the air. It worked (sort of) but I was then told that on paper it‘s an entirely other matter…. I too write ALWAYS somewhere, anywhere, scribble, note, and then later on don‘t find my scraps or can‘t decipher them any longer….
LOVE that quote

it’s a challenge I never went in for: I’m quite happy writing with one hand but maybe I’m missing the point —

me either, just a wishful thinking system to manage all my thoughts and get them down on paper before I forget them )

Back when I was a newspaper reporter, Beth, I’d take my notes on my pad furiously and somebody would look and comment, oh, you know shorthand. Sheepishishly I’d cover my pad and shake my head, replying, no, it’s just sploppyhand.

Mark, back when I was a newspaper reporter, I did the same, wrote furiously in my notebook. To this day I still use my own system of shorthand, which I understand but no one else does. It worked.
When a young reporter interviewed me about two years ago, he didn’t take a single note. He recorded our interview on his cellphone. He didn’t even come with a list of questions. I’m thinking in my head, “What?” I always walked into an interview with base questions, which often led to others. Anyway, by recording and not taking notes, I think he is making a lot of extra work for himself. As far as a list of prepared questions, I asked why he didn’t have any. He replied he hadn’t thought of that but that it was a good idea. Not sure what they’re teaching in journalism school today.

I would record phone interviews but also type as we talked, Audrey, directly onto the list of base questions I drew up beforehand. Of course the prep would hopefully lead to other lanes of fruitful topics. The goal for a successful feature interview was to say so long after an interesting conversation.
When asked to talk to journalism students, in junior high, high school or college classes, I’d alway be sure to share that a most important daily quest was to fulfill your curiosity.

Who says Handwriting Is Dying? I once (and only once) found I had paper in my purse but NO PEN!
I pick up a supply of pens at the bank, the doctor’s office and well just about every place.
I once was on the phone and was yelling at my husband … get me a pen! get me a pen!
I do a lot of things: ONCE ;)

due to an accident at age 3, I had to learn to learn to use my non dominant hand until I had the full use of the other, that meant learning to write, eat, etc. I am not as good using the non dominant, but I can.

Like you, I write notes on anything I have at hand… then wonder why and what it’s for. I remember cleaning out my mother-in-law’s apartment and finding these scraps of paper all over the place. I was not kind in my thoughts thinking she was such a lost soul. Uh huh. Apparently, so am I! Apologies, Jean!

Impressive skill that I will never master. When I broke my right shoulder a number of years back, I had to shift to my left hand for everything. That was challenging.

Looks like a fun thing to try, especially since I am kinda-sorta-not really that much ambidextrous. That being said, I am no threat whatsoever to that record. Loved that quote!

I can write with both hands but only in opposite directions. I showed a former boyfriend that and he looked and then said, “OK, but why would you want to do that?” 🤣

I would love to be able to write with both hands like that. A great party trick. Too bad it doesn’t have a practical use. Nobody writes with either hand any more.
