It is, and I also like this other Hitchcock quote, that I think summarizes the wonder of his movies: “There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.”

Oh, that’s so true. I much prefer movies like that, too.
He also adapted good writers–Daphne du Maurier, Patricia Highsmith, and others.

Absolutely! Don’t you sometimes feel that there are movies where if only they axed one special effect and redirected that money to good writers, the movie would improve significantly? 🤪
I recently learned that Spielberg had several writers rewrite the Haws script, the last one being a comedic writer so that the script would have humorous exchanges, making the difference between the lightheartedness and the horror more stark, and therefore the horror more … horrible? 🙃 There’s a genius to being a spectacular director, no?

Haven’t managed to stay awake for the whole movie, but did have to critique this one for the film class I took. It’s been years since that class but I still get chills when I remember this one. Actually, any Hitchcock movie gives me chills. Love it!

This film, and ‘Shadow Of A Doubt’ are my two favourite films from Hicthcock. I don’t worship ‘The Master’, as many film fans do, but I also have a lot of time for ‘Rear Window’, despite the very obviously ‘stagey’ sets.

I rally am not a fan of his as a person, he sounded quite awful, but I do see him as a master of this genre, understanding how people’s minds work. Shadow of a doubt was also a great one and gives me chills just to think about that one character especially

I remember the Hitchcock TV show in the 1950s. It began with his walking into his outlined profile. He was born on my birthday, August 13, but much older, of course. Other August 13 birthdays were Fidel Castro and Annie Oakley.

beth, you won’t believe this ….. I’m sitting reading about Strangers on a Train on your blog and reminiscing because I like Hitchcock. My husband is in the other room watching TV and I heard the words Strangers on a Train. I jumped up and it was some ad on the movie channel I guess. Husband was half asleep so couldn’t help me out. One of those oddities. I swear. lol

I loved Hitchcock movies and his television show but he was so good at creepy that it kind of makes me think he was creepy in real life.

This is such a good movie. The strategy of “criss-cross” murders is brilliant and very creepy. Is this the movie with a scene at a tennis match, and everyone in the audience is following the ball with their heads moving left and right, except for one character who is staring straight ahead? Man, that was well-done.
