your words.

Standard

when you’ve just settled in for the night

and someone calls asking you to go out

you roll your eyes, you sigh

then have a couple of ways to turn down the offer,

one leaves the caller with a better feeling about you than the other:

option#1

“i don’t feel like going out tonight.”

lazy

unoriginal

puts the blame on you

option#2

“for now, my place is here.”

surprising

philosophical

you answer to a higher power

choose your words wisely.

“facts matter not at all. perception is everything. it’s certainty.”

  1. I sign up to anything Stephen Colbert says – without even thinking about it! BTW, I find myself often in the ‘position’ of finding the right words not to do something proposed to me, because I’m simply too tired, too exhausted, too lazy too.

  2. If I said that second one to any of my friends, I don’t think they would stop laughing for days! It’s much easier at my age anyway, as nobody ever rings and asks me to go anywhere. 😀

    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. I don’t believe I’ve heard of a response like option #2. It sounds nice. And if you say it with a French accent — adding a “mon ami” at the end of the sentence — it might be even more effective :)

  4. I must say I do love option 2. My friends and family would probably meet that with a strange sound as it would be so unlike me. Might be a great way to keep them on their toes!

    • a very good point and I suppose what I took from that is that people won’t always believe the truth, they tend to believe based on their perception of what the truth is. I can’t tell you how much I wish that all journalists were like you when it comes to the truth.

  5. At my age most all of my friends have moved away or died. So I get called to go out to lunch with my mom and mother in law, they are in their mid 80’s and mid 90’s! Lunch is all it takes to make all of us happy. 🤣
