where does the tree end and the child begin?
—
“as a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth;
to see the land as an animal does;
to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee;
to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us;
to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unselfconsciously to the soughing of the trees.”

‘Seeing the land as an animal does’ is something I rediscovered when I moved to the countryside in 2012 and walked everywhere with a dog for the past 12 years. That quote is spot-on!
Best wishes, Pete.

Nature is so magical. Adults tend to forget and no longer see that. Kids on the other hand…

This one touched me, having been a “swinger of birches” in my youth.

I remember all of that. I was always in trees and on the grass. Life was different then and it was good. We were kids who played with Mother Nature.

Had to enlarge the photo tremendously and lighten it to see the 2 kids….. brilliant quote! And where I am right now, plus where I live, we have old, gnarled, bizarre and wonderful trees too. They are so inspiring and the kids just love them. There is so much climbing, playing, inventing going on.

I’ve been meaning to ask about the garden your kinder kids planned to groom. Did that happen? How’s it going?

yes, in process. they’ve cleaned it out, aerated the dirt, and pulled weeds, planting has begun and will continue next week – they are excited

Amazing. I know you will share when it’s in bloom

I’ll be sure to share a couple of pics before the end of the school year, which happens in 2 weeks, so may not all be in bloom yet, families and teachers will take turns helping to take care of it one the summer. at least I can show how it looks in process.
