magical capacity.

Standard

where does the tree end and the child begin?

“as a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth;

to see the land as an animal does;

to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee;

to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us;

to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unselfconsciously to the soughing of the trees.”

  1. ‘Seeing the land as an animal does’ is something I rediscovered when I moved to the countryside in 2012 and walked everywhere with a dog for the past 12 years. That quote is spot-on!
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Had to enlarge the photo tremendously and lighten it to see the 2 kids….. brilliant quote! And where I am right now, plus where I live, we have old, gnarled, bizarre and wonderful trees too. They are so inspiring and the kids just love them. There is so much climbing, playing, inventing going on.
